How to explore Kansas City affordably — starting with the totally free streetcar, plus buses, biking, walkable districts, parking, and rides from the airport.
The single best free thing in town for getting around. The streetcar runs along Main Street from the River Market through downtown and the Crossroads all the way to the Country Club Plaza — connecting a huge share of KC's free attractions.
RideKC operates buses across the Kansas City metro, reaching neighborhoods and suburbs the streetcar doesn't. Routes connect downtown, midtown, the Plaza, and into Kansas. Plan trips and check live arrivals with the RideKC tools.
Many of KC's free attractions cluster into walkable districts. Lace up — or grab a RideKC Bike — and string several free stops together on foot, plus scenic trails along the riverfront.
Driving is easy in KC, and parking is generally cheaper than in bigger cities. A smart move: park once near a streetcar stop, then ride free between downtown districts instead of moving the car.
Uber and Lyft operate throughout the KC metro and are handy for trips outside the streetcar line or after dark. Great for hopping between neighborhoods when you don't want to drive or park.
Kansas City International (KCI / MCI) sits northwest of downtown. Rideshare and taxis are the quickest options, and RideKC runs a bus connection between the airport and downtown for budget travelers.
A huge share of Kansas City's free attractions sit within a short walk of the free KC Streetcar line — from the City Market in the north to Union Station, the WWI Museum, and the Country Club Plaza in the south. Park once (or skip the car entirely), ride free all day, and walk between stops. It's the cheapest, easiest way to see the city.
Kansas City is one of America's great food cities — from legendary BBQ and authentic dive bars to vibrant international cuisine from every corner of the world. Filter by what you're craving.
